We made it to George Town! We did a night motorsail here, leaving Black Point at midnight on Tuesday and dropping our anchor at around 9:30 Wednesday morning. We sailed with Lizard and Moondance. It was my first night journey - uneventful but tiring. After we dropped our anchor I went straight back to our cabin for a long nap. I also went to bed at about 9pm last night while Hill stayed up to watch a movie, and I was so out I don't remember him coming to bed - pretty impressive given that he has to crawl over me to do so.
We spent the afternoon touring George Town and checking out the Family Regatta, which started on Tuesday and continues through Saturday. Bahamians ship in their sloops from all over the islands and race them in the harbor. I took some great pictures of the boats getting ready, and we also ferried one of the boat captains into the harbor in our dinghy. In town, there is a street festival set up with stands selling food and alcohol and a DJ playing local music. Yesterday we were too tired to try the local favorite drink, "Sky Juice," but maybe we'll do so today.
We are planning on staying through Sunday at least - in addition to the Regatta, the forecast calls for strong winds from the NE/E through Sunday, which will build up the waves in Exuma Sound. As soon as we have a weather window, we will start heading back to the US. Today, our plan is to head over to the "Chat 'n Chill" bar near our anchorage and watch the Regatta. Good times.
