Back from the Christmas holidays, and now the preparations are continuing in earnest. We have been packing up the apartment, organizing the financials, forwarding our mail, and generally getting things ready on the home front to be gone for some time.
The boat continues to get pulled together – did some research on regulators to manage the alternator (trying to use my existing alternator with an external regulator). We have the anchor, and are fitting a new anchor roller to help it fit properly. New batteries – can we get all 4 105 A-H batteries under the rear berth? And the fitting of the watermaker – all are in process.
On a personal note, I’m wrapping up work this week and have signed up for a Yachtmaster Offshore (http://www.yachtmaster.com/) class down in Ft. Lauderdale. This will get me get down there to check on the boat, and also learn more about traditional navigation in a formal setting. By the end, I should have a 200 ton license with a commercial endorsement. Not sure who would hire me, but it is a good set of skills to have. You’re either trained, or you’re untrained.
You can also seem some photos here of the configuration of the dodger, which we're fitting for the first time. As you can see, it will obstruct the rotation of the handles (we'll get a 8" handle) partially, and must also be relatively low due to the boom position. But it will sure be nice when it is blowing 25 knots at anchor...
